Every little girl has, at least once in their lives, dreamed
of becoming a princess. There's nothing more magical to any girl, than the idea
of wearing ornate ball gowns, living in a beautiful castle and finding one's
very own Prince Charming.
Which is why Cinderella is such a well-loved favorite. It's
such a feel-good story -- this helpless, poor young lady whose fate turns all
of a sudden, which eventually leads to her Happily-Ever-After.
Because it's a story that has endeared itself to millions and millions of readers, both young and old, Resorts World Manila has decided that after Kaos, and The Sound of Music and The King and I, its next musical production will be, Rodgers and Hammersteins' Cinderella.
The Chorus sings, The Prince Is Giving A Ball |
Last Saturday, they showed a sneak peek of the musical at
the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Several numbers were performed, such as The
Prince is Giving A Ball and Stepsisters' Lament but -- Karylle Tatlonghari and Christian Bautista's
number, was particularly dazzling.
They sang 10 Minutes
Ago amid the dazzling backdrop of the castle's ballroom, and for a
moment, I was 10-years old again, dreaming of balls, and castles and Prince Charming.
If the sets that we saw were any indication, the Cinderella
production packs in a lot of wow-factor -- opulent staircases, crisp LED
backdrops, and spectacular costumes.

"We are really going to push this one that much
further, where you can't actually tell what's real and what's magic," set designer Andrew Botha says.
I'm especially excited about how they'll do the transformation scene -- a pumpkin becomes a carriage and Cinderella's rags magically turns to a beautiful ballgown.
But I guess we'll all have to wait for October!
Cinderella will start its run on October 9 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. Tickets may be bought at the RWM Box Office located at the main casino entrance. Call (+63 2) 891-9999 for inquiries and reservations.
